copy printer settings

Hi,

Two MacBooks, identical in every respect.

I bought one two months ago for work. Added it to the network and I can print with it.

The second arrived today, and I cannot, try as I might, add it to the network to print. Let me be more precise: getting it onto the domain isn't a problem. But I can't add the network printer.

So I google, and come across this. Transfer Printer Settings to Another Mac

I copy the /etc/cups/cupsd.conf file across to the new computer, and also the file (which in fact is the printer name) in /etc/cups/ppd across to the new Mac. I reboot, and still, the printer isn't there. I also take the HD/Library/Preferences/org.cups.printers.plist file and put it in the same place on the second Mac.

No luck.

The problem is that I'm not Windows admin, and even my Windows colleagues don't have a clue what protocol the printer uses. They just add it on the Windows laptops,,and it works.
