Q: Mac computer not receiving iMessage from a few select contacts

For a few days now, there are at least 3 contacts in which only my computer is not being able to send or receive iMessages. My apple ID and number is being used between 6 devices due to a business setting. The other devices don't have any issues sending/receiving.

I have looked through all settings to ensure they are all the same. I have also updated the to the latest OS version. Turned off cell, signed in/out several times.

Help!

    Hi,

    Did that include:-

Signing Out of the Apple ID on the Mac.

    Quitting Messages.

Signing out of the Apple ID on the iPhone  and closing the Settings.

Then restarting the Mac version and signing back in again

The Adding back the Apple ID on the iPhone (and accepting all the pop ups on all the devices saying what the iPhone Is using) ?

    Just to check:-

In the "To" spot you can enter the Contact's Name and they appear ?

It is trying send an iMessages (blue bubbled item) to them that fails ?

What does any error messages or alert text say ?

Or do they go Red at the "To" spot before you get that far ?

    EDIT

In the Mac version check Preferences > Accounts > iMessages account Block list (you never know)

Also do these Contacts know only your Apple ID or your iPhone Number ?

If so are both checked to Receive At on the Mac version ?

What is the Start From set to (and does this match what they know as they may have blocked Unknown IDs/iPhone Numbers)

Hello Ralph, (and thank you in advance)

I did all the above (including a 2nd time now that you prompted just to make sure)

    Just to check answers:

    1) yes, I can enter contact name and it will give the option to send a msg to their number or email. The phone number, while on other devices shows as iMessage - and the other 5 devices can send iMessages, my computer will ONLY send SMS and my mac only is not receiving their answer at all -- while the other 5 devices receives an iMessage response.

    2) I don't have the error (red icon), it is not allowing me to send iMessages, only texts

    EDIt answers:

    1) the contacts do have my number!

    2)  what do you mean by CHECKED TO RECEIVE AT ? Please explain

    3) start from is set as phone number

    Hi,

In Messages > Preferences > Accounts > iMessages account the pane show a "Receive At" lists section.

This normally has at least the Apple ID, the iPhone number if linked and any other email ID you have added.

You can choose which the Mac then Receives iMessages from.

If you do do this sort of thing then only the iPhone Number (iMessages to to your iPhone Number) will appear.

It also restricts the "Start Conversations From" drop down to the extent if only one ID is left then the drop down will disappear.

It sounds that you have at least two IDs active in the Receive At list (as you post there is something in item 3) )

If you don't see the Contact go Red when you select a Contact in the "To" spot does the attempt to send get met with a "Not Delivered " alert next to the bubble ?

If this is the Case the iMessages Account is not logged in properly.

The only way to tell is when it either gets delivered or it fails.
