Q: How do I use date from a certain Catagory in a specific date range from multiple tables?

I have created a spread sheet that contains four account registers and my monthly budgeting sheets as well. I would like to be able to populate the information from my acct registers into the "actually" spent side of my monthly budget. Everything is broken down into categories like mortgage, groceries, gasoline, ect.  The data is also separated by date. So I would like to find a way to populate every transaction made in February on groceries from each of my accounts, into the one cell in my budget spread sheet that reflects groceries and so on.

Thanks in advance,

So I think I may be on to something with this. I have used this formula in a few different ways and it's not really getting me where I want to go. I need to be able to subtract the Credit column from the Debit Column but it gives me this error. Is there a way I can do this? I still need to add in the Date component but I guess I will get to that!

If I leave SUM out of the equation and just us the Debit column it shows a number in the cell however I need to be able to account for returns and other entries in the Credit column.

    Thanks JP

    Hi Jon,

check the required syntax for SUMIF(). You have SUM() where SUMIF() is looking for sum-values.
