Jan 28, 2016 12:52 PM in response to Gal11by Demo,★HelpfulI Believe the problem is that you have to update iTunes in order to restore and you can't update to iTunes 12.3 without running 10.8.5 at the very least. Mountain Lion is the minimum required now if you want to sync with iTunes and I assume that would also include restoring the device.
This support article states that you should update iTunes first.

But I guess I can restore at least a functionning OS by using a computer already running a more recent OS, not especially mine...

Jan 28, 2016 1:05 PM in response to Gal11by Demo,★HelpfulYou should be able to restore the device on any computer running the latest version of iTunes as long as there is nothing wrong with the device itself... Hardware issues being one caveat.
