removing an old printer from new iMac

In searching for a new printer, reading reviews, I came across the suggestion to remove drivers etc of the old printer before installing a new one. A few folks had various problems with their new printer, before doing that. How is this done? Is there an Apple page with instructions that I can follow?

Thank you

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

You can go into System Preferences/Printers, select the printer you want to remove and click the '-' sign.

If you want to remove printer software, after doing the above, you can go to Library/Printers and move the printer brand folder (e.g. Canon) to Trash. And possibly ~/Library/Printers and delete any brand printer app (e.g. Canon MP560.app) file.

Then install your new printer's driver which you might be able to find at Apple or from the printer manufacturer's web site.
