Upper case letters that stay upper case no matter what I do

On my iPad I sometimes inadvertently type an upper case letter and, having done so, can never make it become lower case. I can delete it and type the letter again in lower case but it once again comes out as upper case. The only solution is to type the letter twice, then delete the upper case version. I assume there's something in SETTINGS that is causing this but can't work out where it is. Any suggestions?

There is a setting under Settings/General/Keyboards/Auto-Capitalization. You may want to toggle that setting to see if that's what's going on.

Also try disabling Enable Caps Lock. iOS has recently implemented a caps lock feature. Maybe you are inadvertently double-tapping the Caps key (this enables caps lock) and turning caps lock on. Single-tapping the Caps key if caps lock is on will turn off caps lock. You can tell if caps lock is on if the caps key has a solid bar beneath the arrow.

You can also force-restart the device to see if that will help:

Force Restart (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)

1. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button

2. Press and hold the Home button

3. Keep holding both buttons until the display turns off, then back on displaying the Apple logo.
