If it will run, please download and run EtreCheck

<http://etrecheck.com/>

I'm not sure if it will run on 10.5.

General ideas.

You may have contracted adware.

Your system is very old, so the disk drive may be slowly failing. The drive itself will start doing silent retries, were it can take several seconds for the disk to succeed, and then move on, all without telling the operating system. That will seriously slow down your system (again just making wild guesses)

If you have installed anti-virus, Mac cleaners, or software that claims to make your Mac run faster, they often times have a negative effect on your system.

It is possible a process is dying, starting, dying, starting, dying, starting... Look as Applications -> Utilities -> Console and see if there are any very frequently occurring log entries that indicate a process may be in trouble.

You can run Applications -> Utilities -> Activity Monitor and see if there are processes consuming too much CPU or Memory.

If you have been opening lots of tabs in your browser, that can consume lots of memory, and since you have an older system it may not have a lot of memory to offer, but todays web pages tend to need more resources to display.

Even if EtreCheck will not run, you might read through all the suggestions on the <http://etrecheck.com/> page for things to check.
