Ubuntu Linux runs on Macs.
The only way to find out is to plug in the USB device into your Mac, hold the Option key on your Mac while it's booting to invoke the startup manager and if the USB drive shows up in the manager, choose it to see if your Mac will boot the OS on the USB drive.
