Q: MBP wont connect to wifi need urgent help! Before I go back to school

MBP 2010 wont connect to wifi (2.4G or 5G) but will connect to Internet sharing off another mac or or mobile hotspot off my iPhone? Any help?!

It says exactly "The Wi-Fi network "Cisco Router" could not be joined | Try moving closer to the wireless router. Alternatively, run Wireless Diagnostics to troubleshoot"

But whatever I do nothing works!!

Someone please help!!

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)

    Hello nick_holt_nz,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

I see you're unable to join a specific Wi-Fi network.  Given the error message recommends that you run Wireless Diagnostics to troubleshoot the issue, then that's exactly what I recommend you do.  To learn more about Wireless Diagnostics please take a look at the link below.

Use Wireless Diagnostics to help you resolve Wi-Fi issues on your Mac

    Have a good one.

    Hey Nick,

If you were able to connect while closer to the router, then the connectivity issue could either be attributed to some sort of interference, or there is an issue with the router itself.  Before getting in contact with your ISP about the router, run through the information in the link below to rule out an issue with signal interference.

Potential sources of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth interference

    Cheers.

bring you mac to a wi-fi hotspot like a coffee shop and if it connects it's not your wireless radio and its possibly your router (even though it works for everything else) If this is the case reset your router to defaults, some routers allow you to save the current setup or you can screen shot on your mac and have a copy of how it's set up now as a reference point for later.

and connect your mac with default settings, once you've established that reconfigure your router to whatever securities and protocols it needs.

and if your antenna is damaged or not correctly attached expect issues as well, check the back of the unit for that and make sure the unit is properly ventilated and not in direct sunlight or near any device that generates heat like another computer or a space heater.
