How to Reset NVRAM on your Mac - Apple Support
Boot into recovery by holding cmd and R upon start up and:
Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks - Apple Support
See if that works.

You should probably take it in to apple for an opinion.

should be mid 2009 model. This is all I have. Have no idea about current OS though
