Q: Replacement High Resolution Display

Hi

My 2010 MacBook A1342 has developed a minor fault with the diffuser in the display.

I'm going to replace it as Amazon has LCDs for this model available at a fairly low price. However, I was wondering if there are any higher resolution displays that are known to be compatible? I was thinking 1440 x 900 or 1680 x 1050 -- if I'm going to replace the LCD anyway, I might as well upgrade it if the price isn't prohibitive!

If anyone knows of a compatible model at a higher resolution it would be much appreciated.

Many thanks!

MacBook, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3), Mid 2010 A1342 model

I have not seen where this is possible. It's not just a matter of screen resolution but also of the video graphics card installed on the logic board. Which cannot be changed.

The model I have features the Nvidia 320M chipset, which can handle external displays up to 2560 x 1600. I'm working on the assumption that this means higher resolution integrated panels might work, provided they physically fit and use the same connection interface. I'm just not sure whether such panels even exist. All I've been able to determine is that the OEM display has a 30 pin connector.

Your assumption is wrong.  If you doubt my response, go to a genius bar and ask the technician.

Replace the display with one that is exactly the same as it came with.  Otherwise you are 'on a fools errand'.

    Ciao.

Thanks for your help. I don't doubt you are right, any particular reason why this is the case, though?

Pardon for the late reply, the forum software has been problematic and responses were not being posted for the last few days.

There were no other options made for your Macbook but this one:

The OSX is designed to support larger resolutions externally, not internally.

    Ciao.
