The feature to mirror/expand your MacBook-screen to Apple TV wasn't introduced to MacBooks until 2012. Although there are third party applications to work around it, none of them are up to speed with the native AirPlay-performance.

The 13" MacBook Pro early 2011 does support AirPlay.

On your MacBook Pro you should see an AirPlay icon in your menu bar. You should see your Apple TV listed on that menu. Select your Apple TV.

Or you can go to System Preferences -> Displays and you should see a drop down menu for AirPlay Display. Select your Apple TV from that menu.
