automatically send unknown caller id to voicemail

Anyone know of a way to send unknown caller ID calls automatically to voicemail. I'm getting multiple calls per day from an "unknown" caller ID with no associated information (i.e., I can't block these calls with any of the supplied Apple phone tools). "Do Not Disturb" also does not solve my issue (if it could block all calls with missing caller ID information, it would be the perfect solution).

Surely there is an app out there to do this...

Yes, there is.

I made my default ringtone as silent. Then gave everyone in my contacts a real ringtone. If anyone not in my contacts calls, it never rings and goes to voicemail without bothering me.

DND will work, you have to choose the option allow calls from "all contacts" set it to be on all the time, then any number not in your contacts i.e. unknown callers/blocked callers will automatically go straight to voicemail.

Putting the phone in DND will also block ALL other alerts including SMS/iMessage, email and any alerts from apps.

No there is no automatic way of doing this, you'll need to manual hit the power button twice which take the call to voicemail.

I don't think there is an app that can do this.

You can contact your phone carrier and see if they can help as both calls and voicemails are carrier features.

It's easier just to set DND to Manual and "Allow Calls From" to "All Contacts." However, the problem is while that does allow your calls from your contacts to come through, it silences all your texts and other alerts from EVERYONE, including your contacts making it virtually useless for many of us.

I have no clue if Apple can send phone calls directly to voicemail and allow only the ones from contacts to come through why they can't allow texts to come through as well.

The logic should be simple..... "if the telephone number isn't in my phone book allow me to send the call directly to voicemail." However, as it stands now the logic is "if the number is in my phone book let it come through, but block all other notifications from everyone."

Making that one change would eliminate virtually 100% of all the spam calls that I receive. I know because I manually send every phone call to voicemail that I don't recognize, and only 1 out of 100 (or less) leave a message.

I totally agree. This really should just be an easy default option to select in iPhone settings. Please make this Apple programmers! The Do Not Disturb option others have suggested is a very mediocre workaround 'solution' in my opinion, as having DND on blocks texts from contacts. I want to remain reachable to my contacts, but not to telemarketers. I don't want my phone to ring or be interrupted at all if I don't know the caller. There should be an easy one-click button in settings to automatically send all callers not in your contacts to voicemail. In the extremely rare occasion that the voicemail is from someone I know / who should be added to my contacts, then I can add them manually. (Not the other way around of having to manually screen all unknown callers and block them). This seems like it should be an easy fix. I would love to no longer get any spam calls. ... I found this discussion page because I get daily telemarketing calls which I always send to voicemail (they never leave a voicemail), then I manually block that number ... but there's a new caller every day. Frustrating that a solution for this doesn't exist yet as far as I can tell.

I appreciate the DND option, allow Favorites. However, sometimes, I want to do the OPPOSITE. IE: allow calls from everyone, except certain specific contacts, by sending THEM straight to VM. So far, seems life making your entire contact list, a "FAVORITE", except specific chosen contacts.

A workaround would be to download a "silent ring tone" and assign it to those people you don't want to ring through. You'd still see an alert but you wouldn't hear it.

I Keep getting phones from unknown number and its really annoying to not block them. i cant put my phone on do not disturb either. i am job hunting so i get calls from people that are not in my contact list. its even more stupid that t-mobile doesn't block unknown calls like that for my number. my friend has an android phone and hes allowed to block private numbers and eh doesnt get any calls now
