Jan 29, 2016 10:26 PM in response to gail from maineby darkmooney,I click restart and it begins the process but when it gets to the final screen before it turns off it stops there and will stay on until I give up 20 minutes later and push the button to turn it off myself. The version of itunes I'm trying to upgrade to is 12.3.2 but I'm not sure what OS I'm running on.

Then you cannot download and install iTunes 12.3.2 no matter how many times you reboot.
You first need to upgrade your OS X.

Jan 30, 2016 1:55 PM in response to darkmooneyby GhonaZ,★HelpfulGoogle chrome does not allow updates on older OSX systems (my 2009 macbook could no longer update chrome on osx 10.5 a couple of years back)
You can update to osx el capitan (OSX 10.11) from the app store for free.
Just open the app store. Find el capitan. download it and install it. then you can upgrade your itunes as well. and chrome.

Jan 30, 2016 1:55 PM in response to darkmooneyby gail from maine,★HelpfulAnd just so you know - you don't have to manually restart your Mac to do this. The Mac will restart itself when it needs to in order to complete the install, but you should simply go to the App Store, click on the El Capitan update, and then let the Mac do its work. You can watch it process, but don't mess with it while it is trying to go through the update steps.
Best of luck,
