I can't find the Inspector.
Why was it gone?
It's so important.

Pages v5.6.1 (no release of Pages v5) has the Pages '09 Inspector, because the new application is not based on the old one. The Inspector has been replaced with the Toolbar Format, and Document items which now open as side-panels. If Pages '09 was installed prior to Pages v5.6.1, then it was silently moved into the Applications : iWork '09 folder, where you can continue to use it and the Inspector.
Except you can not open documents on both Pages versions and once you upgrade all of your files convert.
It almost feels like they removed functionality in favor of a simplified design, which is keeping with the overall design shift at apple in every aspect; trimming down icons to be 2D, fewer colors and gradients, removal of "under the hood" tools, even the mothballing of removable media drives, all target Apple products for the first time buyer.
It would be nice if some of these items, functions, APIs, and preferences could be optional, though I am sure that would add bloat back to the programming code.
Having said all of that I still stand by my Apple products and think they are the most powerful and useful tools around.

Yes, countless other users have expressed their agreement with you (mostly without the "almost" qualifier, since the loss of features is so huge and obvious) since Pages 5 was released in 2013. I doubt too many people would consider the current Pages version to be very powerful or useful compared to the alternatives, or even to Pages 09.
