Photos suddenly disappeared and then reappeared out of order

So a little while ago, for some reason my iPhone out of nowhere removed all the pictures from my iPhone. I wasn't even using my phone when this happened and it definitely wasn't self triggered. I didn't even notice this happened until I picked up my phone to try to upload an image to Facebook. However, the photos then started coming back bit by bit all by themselves. It took a little while for all my pictures to come back. When it was finished, I noticed my photos are in some very bizarre order that makes absolutely no sense to me and now it's an absolute pain to find pictures in my camera roll. Has this happened to anyone else? I have no idea and I'm very worried that my entire camera roll is completely screwed up now. I have an iPhone 5s if that helps.

I ended up spending almost an entire day at the apple store but got very lucky with one of their employees at the Genius Bar. After several different trouble shooting attempts, they were able to regenerate my photos but only after restoring my phone. Meaning, once they recovered my photos, we made sure they were all safe in the cloud, they then wiped my phone clean (back to factory mode) and I got it back good as new!

Hope this helps!

This thread is like a year old right now and no one has found a helpful solution. My photos without any notice decided to all delete themselves I managed to get them back discovering that I did have any more storage in iCloud so I bought storage and they came back, I’ve backed all my photos up to google photos therefore if they decide to delete themselves again then I’ll still have all my photos, I recommend doing this. But, my photos still continue to disappear even though I have so much free storage. The photos decide to come back but I don’t know when they do until I check but it’s really annoying me at the fact they keep on disappearing and reappearing they also wont load when I have WiFi or. Use cellular data can someone please help.

SAME THING BUT EVEN BETTER THAN LOSING ALL 18,000 photos or 65,000 emails or resetting itself.

MY F&$@@$ CONTACTS ARE ALL MIXED UP, SO WHILE I THOUGHT I WAS CALLING ROBERT, I WAS CALLING ROGER!!!!!!

I love how neither apple or anyone has responded to these threads or this prublem. F U apple.

Samsung will be my next choice. They at least value their customers or aren't so arrogant as APPLE

Does anyone have a solution for this?gis thread is over a year and a half old and hundreds of "Me Toos" and yet no help from apple. Definitely switching to Samsung for my bext phone. This is just ridiculous. I can't use my photos app at all. The photos turn grey when I try to look at them and they keep getting deleted and reloaded causing the app to crash and be unusable.

Back in July while at a wedding taking pics of bride and grooms first dance, my phone went black and turned itself off. I restarted it and camera roll said I had 0 pics. Meanwhile I had over 6,000. Slowly they would start repopulating but when it would get to 1,000 or so it would close itself up and start again (crashing). It finally reloaded every single pic after several times going through that same loop. Kept happening for a week around once or twice a day. Little glitches here and there every once in a while but nothing like 2 days ago. Photos disappeared and haven't come back yet, try to access email and it closes up on me, texts with pictures I'm getting from people are coming in as a gray square, can't open up the picture. Can't take a picture either. Opened up more storage space but nothing! Does someone have a solution for this??? I'm freaking out and petrified of losing my pics for good!

What apple store did you find success at? Can you elaborate on what they did? (i.e. How exactly did they recover your photos? By restoring your phone?) I'm confused b/c I thought that restoring your phone would erase everything on your phone? I thought that restoring was only an option if your pictures are already backed up elsewhere?

Thanks! I reallllllly appreciate your response! I've been on the phone/chat with Apple Support for hoursss for multiple days in a row, and they've been clueless, too, and have already escalated it to the engineering team. Still waiting though.

That is horrible. I wish I had a solution for you. You are smart backing them up to Google. I actually just plugged in my iPhone 6s to my windows 10 computer and backed up all the photos in the internal memory and put them on an external drive as well as iCloud. I don't trust the camera roll after its disappearing act. Ok Leya if you solve it let me know. Good Luck !!

This has been happening to me too. I have an iPhone 6. I have tried freeing up space and updating to the most recent iOS, but neither seem to have helped. Roughly once per day, all of my photos/videos disappear, and then I have to wait fifteen minutes for them to repopulate. Also, my phone has been randomly resetting itself about once per day. I don't know if these are related.
