URLs not working in Safari or Mail after iOS 9.2.1

After updating my iPad Air 2 iOS 9.2.1, I experienced Safari crashing when trying to open a new tab. I solved this problem by disabling Search Engine Suggestions and Safari Suggestions in Settings, as recommended. However now, if I've done a search, I cannot open any of the links in that search. If I type a specific URL in the Search Box, then I can open the page, but am unable to sign in, use any links from that page, etc. Also, I find that I am unable to open any URL links that I receive in Mail and tapping on a link then locks up Mail... I have done a full sync to my iMac, which can sometimes rectify a problem, but it hasn't helped in this instance.

Has anyone else experienced this?

thanks van the man... that does work but only sorts the safari browsing problem and not he other related issues namely links in google news and email links. but a good start. It does look the highway road to normality has been removed by the apple software genius's and now through resourcefulness we are having to track through the field and dirt tracks to get to our destination with help from people like you.

I have had success getting Safari to work normally - searches do not freeze but open normally; I can open in another tab; I can even open urls from emails. I did two things - the restrictions on / off (which I have done before without success), then, on a whim, Searched for Google.com and Saved the page to the Favourites bar. Opening Google from the bar has removed all issues ......... for now!

I upgraded all my devices (iPad air 2, iPad mini 1st generation, iPhone 6) to iOS 9.3 a few days before. One day later the links in the Mail program didn't work any longer and the program would freeze after trying a link. This was the same with iPad air 2 and iPhone 6, but not iPad mini.

I hope strongly that Apple will fix this problem.

Hi, I'm having the same issue (both before and after the update) I've just had a conversation with support. They are fixing the error, an update will be released in a couple of days. In the meantime the work around is to turn off javascript - which does appear to make a difference.

Me:There seems to be a lot of people with the same problem

Samantha: Well I know how important it is to have your links working as expected. I would be concerned about that too. I’d be happy to help you out with this today!

Samantha:You’re right. There are.

Samantha:This is something our engineering team is aware of and is investigating. They will be releasing an update in the coming days to resolve the issue but for now we’re recommending the workaround with Java as you have described.

I fixed it somehow by using Outlook and Opera Browser. The links in mails sent to Outlook now work and open in Opera when being set as standard browser. Also documents can be opened and saved using the context menu. Anway, the links in documents still don't work and the app freezes. Maxthon browser is also working. But the whole situation is a complete mess and Apple should move their ***** with highspeed to fix this stupidity.

Hello poacher68,

Well it is probably a coincidence but my iPhone was working perfectly after (fresh install), I opened apple store, install booking, open mail and links don't work 😟.

I tried then:

1. uninstalling booking,

2. back up,

3. factory reset,

4. restore back up without booking. It doesn't work.

There are may be other things, apps or functionalities as 3D which are probably failing...

I wrote here on 8th of February, I thought Apple would solve it soon or with 9.3. but....I am really sorry because I am using iphone / ipad / several years ago and it is the first time I have a BIG problem and no answer from Apple. It makes me think in other possibilities of course.

I can understand that it is holidays also for the emoloyees at Apple but what I do not understand is that after so many public betas it seems as if last minute changes were done to the release build that were not tested. Or maybe it is a bug that affects the devices that did not have a beta build like in my situation. I have no issues on my iPad an iPhone that were running all the beta builds.

Same issue here

Links not opening

Mail links not opening - freezing the app

Other apps needing Safari or system level URL handling having serious issues.

The only thing that partially helped was changing default search engine to Bing (which is not a fix, I hate the thing).

It opens safari search results but does not fix issues with other apps...

a) I've been an Apple customer since 3GS, My 6+ is the last iPhone I'll buy (at least for a while). At this point, Apple has become as buggy as Droid and I feel like The S7 Edge might be buggy and have it's own problems too, but at least I can be frustrated with a different device for a while.

I USED TO SAY TO PEOPLE: BUY AN IPHONE, IT JUST WORKS......

b) As I use my iPhone at work this new bug made my SMART phone DUMB again. I really can't wait to try out droid on a day to day. Maybe it's crap. but at least it WATERPROOF, WIRELESSLY CHARGING, actually NFC ENABLED, SD-CARD Expandable crap...

I do realize that this is a first world problem and that change of platform is not a solution, but since Jobs passed away things started to go downhill. Since iOS 8 I've been delaying the inevitable...leaving Apple. They really suffer from not having the old as@@@e around, squeezing the best out of people, even at the expense of driving them mad. Now we are getting their second best..

I too have been having the issues with Safari on my IPad Air for a couple of days Still have the 9.2.1. So it's not strictly a 9.3 problem....Links won't open from email, Click on anything in Safari and it does not work. My iPhone 6 was still working but then I did the 9.3 update on it yesterday and now have the same problems. Was going to download the 9.3 to the iPad as well but it wasn't showing that there was any update to do, which I thought was odd... Glad I found this information. Had to use the Google app to browse and find this forum as Safari obviously doesn't work. I should also mention that when I went to reply to this thread I clicked and nothing happened, including my keyboard popping up. I had to click HTML before it would. I've restarted the devices a few times, deleted some recently loaded apps, but to no avail.
