URLs not working in Safari or Mail after iOS 9.2.1

After updating my iPad Air 2 iOS 9.2.1, I experienced Safari crashing when trying to open a new tab. I solved this problem by disabling Search Engine Suggestions and Safari Suggestions in Settings, as recommended. However now, if I've done a search, I cannot open any of the links in that search. If I type a specific URL in the Search Box, then I can open the page, but am unable to sign in, use any links from that page, etc. Also, I find that I am unable to open any URL links that I receive in Mail and tapping on a link then locks up Mail... I have done a full sync to my iMac, which can sometimes rectify a problem, but it hasn't helped in this instance.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I Experience exactly the same isses on a iPad Air 2 64 GB. It all Worked flawless 24 hours Ago. I experienced the issues a few Hours later. Stupidly i assumed 9.3 Would fix it but it is the same s***. I figured out a restore fixed the issue, but after reinstalling my apps the issue reappeared. In Google chrome, the press and hold enables Copy link & Open in new tab, but this is a painful process compared to just tapping the link ☹️

Hi,

So you do not get confused to fix the problem you need to have done a previous backup to I Cloud or a full backup to your PC or Laptop,I always do a full backup as well a small backup to I Cloud, so to fix the problem do a manual restore via I Tunes under manual backup making sure you have tickedthe box from your PC and choose the nearest date before the problem started withthe new update ie, the last dateyou backed up your device.

I face the same problem after updating my Ipad Pro to 9.3. and the older Ipad2 to 9.2.1. Both devices show the same issues, all search results in Google Browser or any other browser have no woriking hyperlink! By going into the "Settings" then "Safari" then "Search Machine" I did un-select Search Machine but had to go further down to "Extended" to un-select "Java Script" to have the hyperlinks working again. The side effect of this is that some pictures, movies etc that use Java do not work and you then have to select "JavaScript" before being able to look videos etc.

The 2 people from apple support did recommend to make a copy of the Ipad via Itunes, then make a reset and download all saved data back to the Ipad.

in the meantime I had a experienced support member on the phone that told me not to update via Itunes. Reason: Itunes will copy the whole software and and back it including bugs. She recommended to wait as the fix of the bugs will be available before the coming weekend.

Lots of good ideas and advice are shared, but nothing that fixes the bug. <Nothing that lasts more than a day or so.. No analysis has concluded anything as to what the RCA is/are. before we know that, it is just like wetting your pants... nice and warm for a short while...

Apple says.. be patient..!!! OK difficult, when one is actually out of business...

JAVA script turned off.... most web sites don't Work (saves me a lot of Money, can't do any shoppng😀)

Key chain was already turned off.. not the reason

Booking.com deleted

Alternate browser installed (I miss my bookmarks)

Lots of Work arounds.... but it does make life very complicated.

BTW.. I found my good old portable PC, running WINDOWS 8!!: WORKS PERFECTLY

And also my WINDOWS PHONE WORKS PERFECTLY

APPLE, go fix this issue, this should be a task force, regard it as a sev 1 or a = system down

I agree you should not do a update via ITunes, however you cannot anyway as Apple has pulled the update, so the advice bit miss leading, however you should always do a backup to I Cloud and a full backup to your PC or Laptop regular via I Tunes and therefore if you do you can do a manual restore back to the date before the problem started and therefore al your settings are reversed.

I think some people are getting confused by thinking you should do a backup to I Cloud or PC that will not work if you have never previously done one before as you will still have the same bug on you device, you have to restore to a previous date you did one before the problem started, that is why you need to do backups regularly including a full backup.

I am on 9.2.1 and encountered the issue 2 days ago. I tried delete/reset and restore my backup via iTunes, but no success.

Deleting booking.com, no success.

I did a reset again and setup as new iPhone, still on 9.2.1. Installed some Apps, including OneDrive, but not GDrive and not booking.

Now links are working in Safari and Mail. At least a minimal working environment. I am afraid to install more apps.

Apple clearly needs to get this solved asap. How can they break the "key function of the internet", the hyperlink, so blindly?

Further,

I note comments concerning if you do a full restore by wiping everything off your device and downloading it all again this works, however it does not as the bug is still on your device, yes you can turn Java off and you can then search, however most websites use and need Java to work as I also first tried this, however I fixed my I PAD fourth generation 2012 my doing a restore backup via I Tunes from my full backup that was stored om my Laptop from a backup I had done in March.

Further, my I Phone and I Pod touch are okay and can surf the web and to protect them have just done a full backup via I Tunes to my Laptop just

in case this problems happens to them and if so I can just restore them back to todays date, these were purchased between two and fours months ago.
