URLs not working in Safari or Mail after iOS 9.2.1

After updating my iPad Air 2 iOS 9.2.1, I experienced Safari crashing when trying to open a new tab. I solved this problem by disabling Search Engine Suggestions and Safari Suggestions in Settings, as recommended. However now, if I've done a search, I cannot open any of the links in that search. If I type a specific URL in the Search Box, then I can open the page, but am unable to sign in, use any links from that page, etc. Also, I find that I am unable to open any URL links that I receive in Mail and tapping on a link then locks up Mail... I have done a full sync to my iMac, which can sometimes rectify a problem, but it hasn't helped in this instance.

Has anyone else experienced this?

iPhone 6S Plus 128 GB has the same issue. Did a restore, and it didn't work. Set up as a new phone, tested links -- it worked. Performed a restore from iCloud and the link issue came back.

Safari work-around is to disable Javascript under Advanced settings. The mail app continues to freeze up on link clicks.

Really don't want to start over again, hope this can be resolved somehow.

It seems this is happening to 6S or larger gb phones. I have seen a bunch of people post about 128gb.

Last strange thing I remember happening before noticing this was getting to the max amount of apps in a folder. The max folder size is 14 pages at 9 apps per page.

Dont think it has something to do with it but it seems everyone including Apple is just guessing as well.

Good old luck to everyone as this is ridiculous. Spoke to another person that is experiencing this and just said their phone *****.

Most people experiencing this wont reach these forms and instead go to the Snapple store. Most end up with a new phone that will employ them to manually re-install everything app by app. For the rest of us this bug is unacceptable.

Ok, after a day of it working, the problem came back!

Here is what I did this time that seemed to fix it (who knows for how long this time!):

double click the home button and up-swipe all the apps so all that is left is the home screen

then settings > background app refresh > OFF

then reboot

I think this has to do with some interaction with 1 or more installed apps.

I tried shutting off all optional services such as background app refresh followed by battery drains and ressets. Nothing has worked and the bug persists.

This bug is unreal. Pages of comments and complaints in multiple forums from what look to be tech savvy users, thousands of views, and still no response from Apple.

What bugged me the most was DMing @Applesupport on Twitter after piggy-backing someone else with the same issue only to have them completely ignore me.

I Read so much about this issue, I had the same issue after 9.2.1 update to iPhone 6. I reaserched mobile Safari and iOS 9.2.1 bugs.. had to really dig. However, what I found out fixed the issue for me. Deleting data, history, and cookies in Safari app doesn't clear totally.. And the crashes that Safari has or had is from data not totally cleared and builds up over time and most iOS users that updated to 9.2.1 the stored data from safari not cleared totally was using space that iOS 9.2.1 needed to successfully work correctly.. I found this fact out About data deletion on iPhone 6 or plus.. open safari go to bookmarks tab at the bottom of the screen, open bookmarks and clear history from there.. You get options on how much you want to delete.. I chose from all time option..and clear data cookies, caches, and history from there... then i did cleared Safari in settings, shut off phone for a few minutes, restarted and problem was solved on my phone.. I had friends and co workers do the same and all but 2 it worked for them as well. Turning off Safari suggestions helps to.Most Ios users changed phones, transfered data, apps, etc and added more stuff over time, well that transfer included history we assumed was gone.. sites we joined then left or searches we did, safari app doesn't completely delete all cookies and stored data..and as update releases get more advanced, some old crap from way back still saved causes space and compatability issues. This is what my digging for 3 weeks, trying the same things posted here, and nothing worked till I saw this explanation. Hope it helps for those still having issues.

I have this problem now on my iPad Air 32GB running iOS 9.3 beta 7. It didn't start until several days after installing this beta (a few days ago), and didn't happen with any prior betas or final releases. My iPad 2 16GB running 9.3b7 doesn't have this problem.

It seems to affect all links in Safari to another domain. Links to the same domain work. Links in Mail hang Mail. Killing Safari, rebooting, and resetting all internet settings have no effect.

DIsabling JavaScript brings up a different version of Google where offsite links work. Is it possible that this is related to a common JavaScript library?

I went some days ago to apple "genius" bar to have an advice on this. The guy was completely aware of this problem and he told me that this is a known problem by Apple that is affecting randomnly to some devices (no pattern discovered). "They are working on it"....

I have an iPhone 6 64Gb with 9.2.1 that works perfectly (as it should be), while my iPad Air 32Gb wifi+cellular with 9.2.1 is totally affected.... It's really fustrating!!!!

The ONLY solution I was given is to reset the iPad to factory settings and DO NOT restore any data from back-up files such iTunes. Just reinstall all the desired apps, reconfigure all accouts,... i.e., as it were a completely new device w/o having back up files.

Although he told me that this works, I have not done it. It will take so many time to reinstall and reconfigure all. Additionally, I still have to "sit and take my time" to think how to manage with things like pictures and similars. And still not 100% convinced that will fix it..

Has anybody tried this?
