Mar 26, 2016 8:39 AM in response to Mrs C Spainby Blue Tree LX,★HelpfulJust got a reply from an Apple engineer. They are working on resolving the issue in a next iOS update.
In the meantime there is a way to solve the issue.
Go into
Settings > Safari > Advanced
and turn off JavaScript
Go back to Safari and force close it (double click home button, swipe up Safari)
Now open Safari again and . . . url hyperlinks work again.
Obviously, this solution comes at the small inconvenience that websites using JavaScript will not be rendering in an optimal manner.
That is for the next iOS update.

Mar 26, 2016 8:48 AM in response to Blue Tree LXby John Mower,This helped me a bit but I achieved the same result using C Spain's suggestion of using the refresh circle button after making the search selection. Still cannot open in another tab.

Mar 26, 2016 9:23 AM in response to Mrs C Spainby Gem_NiLocs,I Am glad to see that I'm not the only one having the issue...it seems to only be with google searches with me...I did a bing search and could open the links. I upgraded both my 6S/64gb and iPad mini and the problem only seems to be with my phone. I don't like Bing but it will have to do til they fix whatever is going on with google and safari....

Mar 26, 2016 9:52 AM in response to Gem_NiLocsby Dr_O,If you don^t like Bing, could you try whether DuckDuckGo works? It's better than Google, Bing, and Yahoo anyway.

Mar 26, 2016 10:06 AM in response to Dr_Oby Harpomarx,Having the same problems with DuckDuckGo. This whole 9.03 upgrade is frustrating beyond measure. Lost faith in Apple.

Mar 26, 2016 10:42 AM in response to Harpomarxby Atomicpianist1,I took my iPhone to sprint and they wiped it and somehow it started functioning normally again. I added my apps back on men at a time and when I finished, the problem started again! They think it might be an individual app. In the process of deleting one at a time to see if I can isolate the app. Will let everyone know if I'm successful.

Mar 26, 2016 10:46 AM in response to Blue Tree LXby StephanJC,Hi folks,
sorry, but none of these workarounds are real solutions of the problem. Open in a new window and opening links from other apps will freeze these apps.
Disabling Javascript does nothing here. You may use alternative browser but main functions of the devices are not working.
Apple should present a solution now! The problem is present since nearly EIGHT WEEKS!
I am very angry!

Mar 26, 2016 11:11 AM in response to Mrs C Spainby luciafromroma,I have exactly the same problem since yesterday, am going mad!! I've been a faithful apple fan.... MacBooks, iPads, iPhones.... what is happening now is really bad!!! apple should answer , explain, apologize.
How many of us use our iPads for professional reasons ? such a disruption just should not occur and an answer must be given by apple asap.

Mar 26, 2016 11:16 AM in response to StephanJCby poacher68,To All very frustrated iPhone and iPad users from someone who like StephanJC has had this bug for 8 weeks.
Before writing this note I have run a few tests on emails and on Safari.
I use the Apple default mail app for my mail accounts, the main two being Hotmail and GMail. If I try to open hypertext links in mails in those accounts set up in the Apple default mail app the hypertext links don't work and the device freezes. However:
- I also have the GMail app. If I go to exactly the same gmail with the hypertext link that froze using the default mail app, in the GMail app the link takes me to Google Chrome and it opens fine. Chrome works to open the link.
- and I have the Outlook app. If I go to exactly the same hotmail with the hypertext link that froze using the default mail app, with Chrome set as the default engine in the Outlook app, the link takes me to Chrome and it opens fine. Chrome works to open the link.
Search links seem to work in Safari with JavaScript turned off. I have not yet tried Blue Trees suggestion.
That engineer had better keep working 24/7!

Mar 26, 2016 11:17 AM in response to augmentiumby luciafromroma, yes, it works for safari and google search but it does not work for links in gmail!!
Could someone ask the apple engineer to speed up a solution ??

Mar 26, 2016 11:27 AM in response to StephanJCby andres1712,Stephan, I totally agree.
We, the customers, not Apple, have found some temporary solutions which partially bypass Apples software but, basically, iOS is flawed and buggy in a manner so irresponsably managed by Apple that has never been seen by me.
I'm a grandad who bought my first Apple in the summer of 1971 and for the first time see a lack of response by Apple that is totally shameful.
NO doubt many of us are reconsidering what to purchase and when. So much for a loyal base being ignored for more info than a month.
i also am very angry.

Mar 26, 2016 11:34 AM in response to augmentiumby robertfromottensheim,Yes a "Solution" only for Safari.
Mail is freezing... -
Mar 26, 2016 11:38 AM in response to robertfromottensheimby mastro35,Looking around there are a lot of users that have tried to reset the iPhone and everything was working fine until the backup fully restored. Could it be an app that cause the problem? In this case I would try to delete all the apps and restart the iPhone to see if the problem get solved...

Mar 26, 2016 11:40 AM in response to andres1712by augmentium,Apple Support on Twitter is full of people complaining about this issue. Their response to me was to disable JavaScript. We all know this is not a solution. I'm waiting to hear further solutions from them, but they're strangely quiet...
