Keep on top in Mail

is there a way to keep the new email message that you are composing on top when you have to check something else in the Mail program before you have finished composing your current email?

MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2012), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)

No. One option would be to put the new e-mail in the full screen mode and then switch to the Mail space to check Mail, then back to the full screen mode.
