Jan 31, 2016 1:29 AM in response to Mike Rousseauby Karsten Schlüter,FCPX is mostly fueled by the GPU (gee, not cee). And the combo of all 'parts'.
Therefor, the actual iMac monsters with a 4GB GPU are fastest FCPX-machine.
All those GHz-measurements are of lil' use with FCPX - my tiny MacMini is, by benchmarks, a pocket calculator; but handles 4k video just fine. For comparisons, BruceX is the only valuable tool, read the many experiences here http://www.fcp.co/forum/hardware/18250-brucex-try-this-new-final-cut-pro-x-bench mark
e.g., just the upgrade to El Cap improved speed of my hobby set-up by ~30%

Jan 31, 2016 3:30 AM in response to Karsten Schlüterby Mike Rousseau,TThanks for the feedback. I have 3 2008 vintage cinema displays hooked up to my 2010 Mac. So to utilize those I was thinking MacPro over iMac.....

I'm not the hardware guy, but iMac >> thunderbolt >> dvi adapter >> monitor(s) ...?
concerning nMp:
the usual suspects rumor of even-newer-MacPros soon to come .... (speculations are not allowed on this board )

Jan 31, 2016 2:56 PM in response to Karsten Schlüterby Mike Rousseau,UUnderstand about the speed. But the cooling in the iMac does do Thermal Throttling and the speed is reduced.

Jan 31, 2016 6:55 PM in response to Mike Rousseauby BenB,The newest iMac 5K, with the i7 CPU, perfectly fine for editing. Very powerful. Only get the new Mac Pro if there's a feature it has that you really need. It won't be upgraded until Intel releases CPUs that could greatly boost its power and speed. It'll be a little more time.

What 'speed'?
Again: FCPX in combo with some specific hardware delivers 'faster' than expected by any benchmark…-
If it's 'fast' enough for Hollywood (Tina Fey's latest, WhiskeyTangoFoxtrott) or 'mother' BBC (time critical editing of sports event: http://www.fcp.co/final-cut-pro/articles/1766-fcpx-and-the-new-retina-imac-a-rea l-broadcast-job-real-editing-and-real-de… ) than why care about the rpm of some fan, or more or less MHz of some piece of silicium...?
