Mike, All of the "mass market" music download stores use a lossy codec:
iTunes Store AAC/256
Amazon Digital Music MP3/256
Google Play MP3/320
There are many other online stores that sell lossless (CD quality) or hi-def (better than CD quality) downloads, but they have much smaller selections than the big guys.
