Q: I have a problem with Airdrop on my new 2015 Macbook 15"

I have a problem with Airdrop and hope someone can help. I had some problem connecting to wifi while working at a friends house recently. Nothing I did would allow my new laptop to connect although my older one and my iphone both did. I searched the for a discussion and a number of people suggested that airdrop was causing problem with some wifi signals and the solution as to turn airdrop off using a terminal command:

sudo ifconfig awdl0 down

That did turn off the Airdrop but did not help my wifi connection problem but the terminal command to put Airdrop back on did not work.

sudo ifconfig awdl0 up

So I am now without Airdrop.

Does anyone know how I can get Airdrop to reappear again. Apple don't  offer any help with terminal commands (i wish I had known that before) and have advised reinstalling the OS but I'm sure there must be another way.

I'm on EL Capitain 10.11.3 on macbook mid 2015

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3), null
