Why is there no option to change side switch to lock rotate on iPhone, when there is on iPad?

Meanwhile, you can use the rotation lock button in the Control Center.

Apple removed that setting and it started I think with ios10 for iPhones, but not for iPads. I was also using the side button for lock rotation. I want it back!

This has NEVER been an option on ANY iPhone. Ever. You can't get 'back' what you never had.

The question IS: We cannot set the left physical button to LOCK ROTATE MODE and there is no settings on it on Settings.

I can't believe Apple took this out. I turned it to lock rotation because I'm always accidentally flipping that switch and turning off my ringer and miss calls! That's the only reason I used that, I don't care about locking rotation. Ideally I'd like the option to ignore the switch entirely !

It sounds like your side switch isn't functioning on your iPhone the way it does on your iPad. This is expected behavior. The side switch on the phone has a different function than that of the iPad:

Flip the Ring/Silent switch to put iPhone in ring mode or silent mode .

In ring mode, iPhone plays all sounds. In silent mode, iPhone doesn’t ring or play alerts and other sound effects (but iPhone may still vibrate).

They didn't take it out. It was never in an official release of iOS for iPhones.

I have no idea why the iPhone and iPad have 2 different "ways" to do the same thing, but they do.

It's actually fast IMO, to use the control centre to lock/unlock the rotate. On the iPad, you have to be sure the button is in the right mode first and that can take more time overall.

Because an iPhone and an iPad are different products, and Apple didn't design that feature into the iPhone.

I recall seeing this in an article somewhere. However, my iPhone 6 updated to 9.2.1 doesn't have this option. I think it may have been something that was in a beta but never made it to final release.

I thought it was really cool when I saw it in some or other article on line (just the other day, oddly) but was never able to find it. 😉

That function for an iPhone is in the Control Centre. Swipe up from the bottom for it.

In iOS 9, there is a way now to change the side switch behaviour, just like on the iPad.
