Why is adding music to my iphone4s such a nightmare!!!! When is apple going to sort this out?

I have tried all ways to find a solution to adding music to iphone. I have latest I Tunes latest ios. I try adding via sync and non-sync.

And these are the problems I get.

The new songs on my phone when viewed in i-tunes always remain greyed out.

Or all my music appears lost from my phone, but when I plug it into I-tunes it is there. I just can't play it on my phone.

I end up time after time restoring my phone and adding all my music again (and it is a lot).

When oh when is Apple going to sort this out?

Why did Apple go down this daft route of storing songs in some random order? Why could it not just have deployed a simple folder structure by artist/album? To my mind it is this most likely over-complicated database structure that causes the problems.

It is driving me nuts!

The following steps should resolve things assuming all of the content you want is in your library.

(If it isn't see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device)

  1. Backup device.
  2. Restore as a new device/factory settings.
  3. Restore the backup you made earlier.

N.B. A feature introduced with iOS 9 referred to as app thinning or app slicing allows each device to download only the code and resources needed by that device, resulting in smaller downloads and better use of storage on the device. As a consequence the device no longer holds the universal version of the app that could be installed on any device so transferring apps is no longer supported. If your apps are not stored in the library when the time comes to restore a device they will be downloaded automatically from the from the iTunes Store over Wi-Fi, in a similar fashion to the way restore from iCloud works, however this puts you at risk of losing any app that is removed from the store by its developer. To guard against this you can download past purchases from iTunes and/or enable automatic downloads of app purchases to make sure that iTunes always has the apps that you want on your device. See also Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy.
