I have a turntable which I would like to plug into my Macbook so that I can use my Audacity software to record some old 78rpm records.
Unfortunately my Macbook and iMac do not recognise the device. My usb cable is working - I tested it by using it to connect my printer to my iMac.
Does anyone have any ideas which will allow the turntable to be recognised?

When connected and turned on if you go System Preferences>Sounds>Input is the turntable listed?
In System Profiler is the turntable identified under USB?

What is the make and model number of this turntable? Does the manufacturer state that it is compatible with Mac?
Thanks for your assistance. It appears that I had to go to Audio Midi setup. Once I had gone through this procedure, the "audio in" shows up in Sound>Input as USB PnP Audio Device.
