remote control problems

I'm trying to control a Keynote presentation on my 2015 Macbook Air using an 2015 iphone 6s. Both devices have updated OS and Keynote software. Keynote on Macbook is set to "allow remote" and it found the iphone. But iphone doesn't find the Macbook. It just keeps "looking for Macbook". Both devices are using the same residential Wi-Fi network. Any suggestions about where to look for the problem?

This discussion is how to use an iPhone to remote control a presentation on a MacBook Air.

Is this what your trying to do? if so what in the Apple advice note does not work?

If perhaps your using an Apple hardware remote control which uses infra red, it will most likely not work as newer Macs do not have IR sensors that are required to receive the IR signal.

You can use a wifi mouse, an iPhone or an iPad with Keynote for iOS installed to remote control a presentation on any Mac.

Dang, why did they make such a bad business decision as to NOT include a IR receiver in the new release of the MBP; very bad.

IR is unreliable and has a very short transmission range compared to WiFi

most people will not use Keynote or their MBP for any presentation.

They will use a WiFi mouse, WiFi presenter, or Keynote remote feature from an iPhone or iPad, plenty choice there
