Sleep mode issues with a Macbook 2012 - Core i7 - MAC OS X El Capitan

I am having issues with my macbook pro when it comes out of it's "deep sleep mode" phase. When I open my computer display it will show a black screen / almost blue screen and it unresponsive to anything, however the backlight keyboard does come on and sometimes I hear sounds like when I am receiving an email. If I shut the case again (and sometimes several times) and open it, it will 'Wake up" and display for me. What could be causing this issue?

Mac Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)
