Episodes marked as clean

Greetings,

I had gotten some help here before, so I thought I'd try

again. My podcast is listed as explicit content. There is even

a Red E next to the podcast name.

However, there is a C next to the Episodes indicating

they are Clean content.

I Don't want to violate the ITunes agreement,

so I'd like to correct the problem.

I Have emailed them, but I assume they get flooded

with email, so if I can speedily fix this myself,

I'd like to.

Thank you!!

They are correct about that, and I would have thought that in the area where you enter the episode's title, subtitle and summary there should be a field for 'explicit'.

Something which is worth bearing in mind, though it doesn't appear to apply at present, is that even if the 'itunes:explicit' tag is set to 'yes' you are not allowed strong or sexual language in the title, subtitle or summary (because it would appear immediately to everyone including those who would avoid explicit episodes).

Hello Roger. Thank you for your reply. As far as I can

see, there is nothing to check when uploading the new episodes.

I would hope they'd make it easy, but it doesn't appear so.

I found it sad a Wordpress help specialist couldn't help me.

I do put a warning in the episode description that there is

explicit language, so hopefully I won't get in too much trouble

until this can be resolved.

The Wordpress person tried to pawn it off on ITunes saying

it's their issue.

No, it's not an iTunes issue; they are talking nonsense. There should be an 'itunes:explicit' tag available for every episode. The second entry here may help:

Alternatively you could investigate using the Bluburry PowerPress plugin which apparently handles podcasts better than Wordpress by itself. They have a Help forum at http://forum.blubrry.com

Roger, you've been very patient and thus far, the only person to attempt to

help me with this. And that includes the Wordpress team. I have been 2 weeks

trying to fix this, and I feel no closer to figuring it out.

I was told by Wordpress once I changed the ID3 tags that it would solve

tthe problem, and it hasn't.

Is there any way you can instruct me how to apply that tag to the feed? There is no option

when posting to mark anything explicit, when I set up the Wordpress account, I did indicate

exolicit language.

Can you please direct me to the fastest easiest way to solve this problem? At this point I'm considering

just going back and editing out the language.

As I say, Wordpress don't know what they are talking about. The only ID3 tag the Store reads is that for the image. I'm afraid I can't advise on Wordpress; possibly you can find a forum. If there really isn't somewhere to enter this tag you could consider Blubrry PowerPress which I would have thought would do this.

I don't want to panic you, but having episodes with strong language and no explicit tag is grounds for your podcast being removed by the Store if anyone spots it, so you do need to do something fairly promptly.

Hi Roger. Thank you. Would the bluberry work in tandem with the Wordpress?

I know, I've been trying very hard to fix this issue and have even tried contacting ITunes.

I do have an adult language warning in all the episode descriptions.

I would like to solve this ASAP and have reached out to many people to try, sadly none

of them seem to be able to help me, as no one knows how Wordpress works.

I finally got some good news. There's a glitch on Wordpress's end.

I was able to get a live chat with someone who actually wanted to help.

They said they'll get on it right away. Apparently my code was correct but

there is something off there they need to fix to resolve this issue.

I Was told iTunes should be fixed in a day or so.

I'm glad.

THank you very much for all your help!!

The Blubrry PowerPress plugin only works with self-hosted WordPress installations. Automattic (the company that runs wordpress .com) doesn't allow third-party plugins except for its very top-tier enterprise clients.

A good podcasting CMS should allow you to add a show-level explicit tag as well as episode-level explicit tags. Until recently, this wasn't a really big deal. However, Apple no longer allows the explicit tag to be in the "neutral" (empty) state. If the iTunes Store finds a tag in this state, it automatically resets it to clean. So, even if the show-level explicit tag is set to explicit, but the episode-level tags are empty, the iTunes Store will automatically set them to clean.

I hope Automattic addresses this problem and updates its platform so either:

1.) Users can manually set the episode-level tag.

2.) When a show-level tag is set to explicit, all episode-level tags are also set to explicit.

Option 2 has its problems but it'd keep a show that has a lot of explicit content from accidentally carrying the clean tag on its episodes.
