Q: Since iOS 9.2.1 upgrade, watch wasn't connected. Tried unpair and pair and now lags during set up. Help!

After my iPhone 6 was upgrade to iOS 9.2.1, my watch had the red disconnected icon but was still receiving emails, messages, etc.

I tried to unpair and pair the phone and watch. ive tried restoring from backup and as a brand new watch and both routes lag through the set up, stalling on accepting terms and conditions.

It gets worse as now, the basically reset watch won't charge because while charging, I'm getting an alert on the watch that charging isn't supported on this device.

Can someone please help? Incredibly frustrating.

iPhone 6, iOS 9.2.1

    Hi

    In respect of your charging issue, check that:

    • All plastic wrapping has been removed from both ends and both sides of the charging cable (check closely).

    • The back of your watch and the concave head of the charging cable are clean and dry (clean them with a nonabrasive, lint-free cloth).
    • The charging head is properly aligned with the back of the watch, with the concave / curved side touching it fully:
      • Some watch docks, stands, cases or protectors might hinder this.
    • You are using a genuine Apple Magnetic Charging Cable or an Apple certified magnetic charging module.
    • If you are charging your watch by plugging into mains power, try using different adapters from the following:
      • The Apple USB Power Adapter that was supplied with the watch, or;
      • An Apple 5W (iPhone) or 12W (iPad) USB Power Adapter, or;
      • Apple-certified (MFi) third-party 5W USB power adapter.
    • If charging via USB, ensure that you use a USB 2.0 or 3.0 port, the computer remains on and awake and the cable is plugged directly into the computer (not into, for example, an external keyboard).

    In respect of the pairing issue, try these steps, which may help to address issues at or before the "verifying" stage. However, do not interrupt your iPhone or watch if the process has already reached the "installing" stage.

    • On your iPhone: close the Watch app and all other open apps (double-press on the Home button, swipe up on each app preview).

    • Remove your watch from the charger and restart both devices; turn both off together, then restart your iPhone first.
      • To turn your watch off: press and hold the side button until you see the Power Off slider; drag it to turn off.
      • To turn it back on: press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.

    I tried to unpair and pair the phone and watch ..

    For future reference, you most likely did not need to unpair your watch.

    Bluetooth disconnections occur whenever the paired iPhone is unavailable (such as during iOS updates). Your watch and iPhone should reconnect automatically a short while after being brought close together again.

    If they do not reconnect automatically, keep your devices close by each other and follow these steps until they do:

    • Check that both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are enabled on your iPhone:
      • It may help to toggle Bluetooth off and on again (Settings > Bluetooth).
    • Check that Airplane Mode is not enabled on your watch:
      • When viewing the time, swipe up on the watch face > swipe sideways to the Settings Glance.

      • If Airplane Mode is already turned on, tap the button to turn it off.

      • It may otherwise help to toggle this mode on and off again.

    • Restart both devices, turning both off together, then restarting your iPhone first.

    For the best performance from your watch, keep both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi permanently enabled on your iPhone.
