Q: Sporadic / broken push notifications for Facebook Messenger iOS 9

I'll start off by saying this probably isn't a matter of toggling a particular setting off or on. I am confident that everything is set the way it should be including push notifications on iOS, background app refresh, Facebook account settings etc.

 

Ever since iOS 8, Facebook Messenger on my iPhone 5 just stopped being nice to me. Initially it started with one friend. Now it's pretty much all of my friends.

 

I simply don't get push notifications when I receive Facebook messages anymore. I have to open the app for it to refresh. No lock screen notifications, no sounds, no app icon badges or banners. The weird thing is occasionally it will work... for a bit. Then it will stop again. I have yet to establish any kind of pattern.

 

I have checked and rechecked all settings, tried reinstalling the app, signing in and out of my Facebook account and restoring iPhone settings to factory (without erasing content). I still get notifications on my Mac no problem.

 

This issue has proven to be relentless and has become beyond frustrating. I am desperate for any advice. Thanks!

    It sounds like the notification for the Facebook Messenger app are not functioning as expected on your iPhone. You've done some great troubleshooting so far. Considering what you've done so far, the last step to look into is found in the following Knowledge Base article:

     

    If an app you installed unexpectedly quits, stops responding, or won’t open

     

    Contact the app developer

    If you see this issue again, contact the app developer for help:

    1. Find the app in the App Store.
    2. Tap the app, then tap Reviews.
    3. Underneath App Store Customer Reviews, tap App Support.
