The router it is connecting to must support ac. Follow the router manufacturer's instructions for setting up the wifi network. Then connect your ac capable computer to the network using system preferences > network > add network.

Simple answer - from APPLE SUPPORT
hover over the wireless icon -
option and click on the SSID using 802.11ac
you will get the details/confirmation you are connected using 802.11ac
