Can an Airport Express extend a network that is not from Time Machine

My question is , I would like to extend my wireless network using a airport express but my current wireless router is from the internet company not a Time Machine or any other Apple product. Where I want to place the airport express is on the other side of the house where the wifi signal is very week. However I did prewire cat5 to that location and I can hard wire my airport express to be on the network . With this set up can I hard line my airport express to the network and then extend that network wirelessly from the airport express. If so , could you tell me how I would go about doing this.

Thank you ,

The AirPort Express can do what you want if it remains permanently connected to your main router using the wired Ethernet cable connection.

Providing instructions on how to set up the AirPort Express would require us knowing the following:

What is the make and model number of your current router?

What version of the AirPort Express do you have?

Do you have a Mac to set things up? If yes, what operating system is it running?
