Q: Updating Apps in iTunes - Popup: You Have Already Authorized Five Computers

On my wife's iMac (Yosemite 10.10.5), while trying to update apps on her iPad  (9.2.1) in iTunes (12.3.2.35), I get a popup message stating, 'You Have Already Authorized Five Computers' and offering two buttons, Cancel and Buy. Nothing happens when either button is clicked and I must Force Quit iTunes in order to escape from this hangup.

I checked her account information and indicates that 'One computer is authorized to play content purchased with this AppleID'.

She has not purchased anything with her AppleID, although her Purchase History indicates two free items, iPhoto and Kindle.

She does not share her library on the local network.

On her iPad, all her apps are listed for me under Family Purchases; none are shown for her.

Does this mean that only I can update?

Why then the message and hang when I try to update on her iMac?

You've entered a good amount of detail about some things (e.g., iOS and iTunes version numbers), but we must guess about quite a few other things.

You said you checked her account information  and found one computer authorized.

You mention Family Sharing, so I'm guessing you have Family Sharing set up and you are the family organizer.

So I'm thinking it's extremely likely that it is your Apple ID that is authorized on as many as five computers.  As you can see in the "Learn More" section below, five computers is the maximum allowed.
