How can I use Brother HL-L2320D with OS X 10.6?

Las year someone was looking for help connecting a Brother HL-L2320D with OS 10.10. They said "Funny enough, the printer will work on a maxed out (can't be upgraded anymore) 10.6 mac." Does anyone know how that was done? I can't upgrade my system until I solve some software issues, but I would like to be able to use this printer. Brother only has drivers for 10.7 and up.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

I successfully replaced a Brother HL-2240 single-side printer with the Brother HL-L2320D printer on my Snow Leopard iMac. I followed the directions on a page that popped up from a web search on how to do this:

I downloaded the "HL-2240D series CUPS" driver on my OS X 10.6.8 machine, to which I have the HL-L2320D connected by USB. The printer works fine for both single-sided and duplex printing. And it works as a shared printer on my wireless network via my OS X 10.10.5 MacBook.

I had feared the Snow Leopard machine would be printer-less, but things worked smoothly (unexpectedly).

I got my new Brother monochrome laserwriter to work with some functions with OSX 10.4.11 by going on Brother's web site and downloading a CUPS printer driver for an older printer. You'd be looking for a newer one than I needed so I won't go to the hassle of seeing which one I actually used. I remember having to poke around a bit to actually get a complete listing of all drivers which included a column with OS support. I just spent 5 minutes going through my browser history and couldn't find it again so I'm afraid it is up to you now. 🙂
