access remote drive

I just got a new MBP. I keep it downstairs. I still use and keep the old MBP upstairs. The old one has an external drive attached to it. But I am not able to see the external drive from the MBP downstairs. I have a home network and I have File Sharing turned on in both computers.

How can I access files from each computer?

Thanks in advance.

On the server mac,

1. Select the folder-to-be-shared on Finder

2. Type command+I ( or choose Get Info from File Menu )

3. Check on "Shared folder" in General section.

Or, you can manage the list of shared folders at Sharing pane on System Preferences

How to connect with File Sharing on your Mac - Apple Support

To add a folder to the shared folders list,

1. clink "+" on the bottom of the list

2. browse and select the folder on the dialog.

3. click Add button.

Make sure that enough permissions are given to users you use for access from client mac.
