imovie for 4k

iMovie imports and runs 4K, 100M, 30p video from my Panasonic FZ1000 camera, but I don't get the option to select Clip Trimmer or Precision Editor from the drop-down menu (they're grayed out) and I can't trim my files. Is iMovie compatible with 4K and/or my camera? Is there another way to trim my files?

I can click on the timeline and get a yellow outline with handles on each end that I can drag, but they don't seem to do anything. I can drag the vertical line to a point on the timeline and the video will start at that point, but I can't seem to select a stop point. And, Clip Trimmer and Precision Editor are grayed out in the Window menu. Also, I don't see a way to save any editing I do. I could use a set of instructions, but I don't see any, and the Help menu doesn't help. I'm wondering if my video format is compatible.

If you were able to import video from your camera then the format is not the problem. iMovie 10.1 introduced 4K compatibility.

iMovie saves your editing automatically so you don't need to save (though keeping an updated backup of your library is a goos idea.)

Trimming is explained in the help files at: http://help.apple.com/imovie/mac/10.1/#/movf8b8fc9b2

There some introductory videos on iMovie 10.1 on Youtube eg. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKu5p4e4CbY

which you may find more helpful than the help files.
