Feb 2, 2016 10:40 AM in response to vldu2by lllaass,The Audio-in jack on a Mac is for line level (amplified ) audio input. it does not work with the simple mics with 3.5 mm plug.
The headphone jack does incorporate a contact for using a mic input. See:

You can use a cable to connect a simple 3.5 mm mic to that input like the following

You can also get a USB mic. Almost all are Mac compatible

Feb 2, 2016 10:45 AM in response to lllaassby vldu2,I have a Turtle Beach headset that also has a microphone. I've used it with my DOS laptop with no problem. It has USB power, and is getting power from the Mini.

In System Preferences >Sound are you looking at Input for the Mic and Output for headphones?
Can you provide a link to the headset?
