Q: Facetime Notification Problem
When I close the lid on my Macbook Air and I am logged in to Skype I do not get a ring or any kind of notification when I receive an incoming call. I checked all the Settings on Macbook and in Skype and all Notifications are checked and Sound Effects seem to be checked correctly. I have to keep the lid open to get incoming calls from Skype and FaceTime too. When I close the lid while in a call it will drop the call.......It seems that all activity and Notifications stop when lid is closed. I hope someone can help.....Thank you.

Hi Alice2015,
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities! I'm sorry to hear you are having these concerns about your MacBook Air, or if their may be a bit of confusion. I'm a bit unclear on your exact configuration, but based on what you have described this sounds like expected behavior. When the lid is closed on a portable Mac (without an external display connected), the Mac will go to sleep. While in sleep mode, the network connection is disabled/disconnected, which would disconnect any network calls or notifications. There are certain specific new Mac models that do have an Enhanced Notification feature that allows waking from sleep for things like FaceTime, as noted in this article:
Enhanced notifications that can wake your Mac - Apple Support
(Note that even with Enhanced Notifications, the lid on a portable Mac must be open for the feature to work)
