Save from Keynote as image without period in filename?

When I export a slide as an image, Keynote's default naming convention is to add a period before the slide number (e.g. filename.001.png). My workflow doesn't allow for special characters (including periods except those immediately preceding file type) and I'm curious if there's a way to change this export preference. Any leads?
