Can't click on user icon on login screen.

I cannot click on my user icon on the login screen, and I need to click it to log in. My trackpad is broken, but I enabled the "tap to click feature." Everything else is fine, except for the user icon. Any tips? I don't want to get an external mouse just because of this... I have a 13' 2009 Mac Pro, if that helps. Thanks!!

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)
