All I wanna know is, won't the installation of good anti-malware program protect yourself from identity thieves and other retails scams? What do you guys think?

No, it will not. Criminals steal your information from many sources - they could hack into your bank's site and steal all the info of all of their customers - there is nothing software on your computer can prevent.
What keeps your Mac safe is your online behavior: stay away from questionable sites, don't click on any link unless you know where it's going, etc.
