It sounds like you're trying to disable compatibility mode on your Windows computer. The following Knowledge Base article offers the steps on how to do just that:


Turn off compatibility mode in iTunes for Windows


The following message might appear when you open iTunes:

"iTunes requires Windows 2000 or later. Please make sure compatibility mode is disabled in the Compatibility tab of the properties for iTunes.exe."

To turn Windows compatibility mode off, follow the steps below:

  1. Quit iTunes.
    Windows XP: From the Start menu, choose Run. Then enter
    %SystemDrive%
    .
    Windows Vista and Windows 7: From the Start menu, search
    %SystemDrive%
    .
    Windows 8: Move the cursor to the top right corner of your computer screen. In the Search charm, type
    %SystemDrive%
    .
  2. Open the Program Files folder. If you're using iTunes on a system with an older video card, open Program Files (x86).
  3. Open the iTunes folder.
  4. Right-click on the iTunes application (iTunes or iTunes.exe) and from the shortcut menu. Click Properties from the pop-up menu.
  5. Click the Compatibility tab.
  6. Windows XP: If it's selected, deselect the check box under Compatibility mode.
    Windows Vista: Click "Show Settings for All Users." If it's selected, deselect the check box under Compatibility mode. Click OK.
    Windows 7 and Windows 8: Click "Change Settings for All Users." If it's selected, deselect the check box under Compatibility mode. Click OK.
  7. Windows Vista and later: On the Compatibility tab, if it's selected, deselect the check box under Compatibility mode, too.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Open iTunes and play a song.
