Why wont my iPad upload video's to laptop?

iPad is running version 8.3 (it is a work iPad and unable to update as work app is not yet compatible with latest version) and laptop is running Windows 8.

I have some work videos that I've recorded on the iPad that are taking up a lot of memory and I want to save them to my laptop to review them later but I cant seem to do it.

Please can anyone give me some suggestions on why this doesn't work or how I can fix this issue?

I have tried to do it the same way as uploading pictures, via the camera option on the laptop, but this just crashes.

I have also tried to do it via QuickTime Player, which did work, but playback of the video is very jumpy from one second to the next and its hindering my ability to review the data recorded.
