Hey everybody,
Every so often, we get into a situation where we want to take our ATV "on the road". In some of these situations, there's no wifi available. I could have sworn there was peer to peer connectivity options to AirPlay content from an iOS device to an ATV without any wifi. Was I just imagining this, or do I need more coffee?

Peer to peer is available for air playing. However, the ATV device needs to have an Internet connection even when using peer to peer. AirPlay is a service available on the iDevices. However the ATV is a streaming Internet device so it will require an Internet connection...
when I travel, I use an HDMI dongle connected to my iPhone/iPad. This also helps save space as I already have those devices with me...

I'm pretty sure that Peer to Peer doesn't require an internet connection (although other services on the Apple TV will do). It does however require a wifi network. (it uses bluetooth initially to configure the wifi settings for you)
Yeah, I thought the same thing. The only thing I do know is that for any AirPlay choices to even come up on my iPhone, for example, Wi-Fi has to be turned on. It doesn't need to be connected to a specific network, but it needs to be turned on apparently.
It doesn't initially need to be connected to a network - no, but there has to be a network available for bluetooth to configure the devices to connect to it.
