Q: Spotlight not indexing all items, cannot get it to re-index
I just upgraded to the latest point release of El Capitan.
It's been a couple of days now since I upgraded so there should have been plenty of time for Spotlight to re-index but it is clearly missing items. For example, if I type in "reminders," the app is not displayed. Same goes for many other applications I know exist.
I checked the privacy settings in Spotlight's System Preferences pane and there is nothing in there.
I've tried to re-index drives per this Apple page: Spotlight: How to re-index folders or volumes - Apple Support
It did not solve the problem.
Not sure what else to try now.

I fixed the problem by running this command in Terminal: sudo mdutil -E /
