Macbook Pro HDD update

If you swap out the hard drive does it void ALL support with apple care or just harddrive stuff? I have a user who wants to swap his TB drive into one of my new machines that is only 512gb the old machine is out of warranty and the new one is good for three years but I don't want to nuke it.
