Side chain input in logic 10.2.1 not working

Just updated to 10.2.1 and the side chain input on plug ins will not open into the drop down menu. Also the "view 100%" button right below the side chin won't work either... I'm running osx 10.9.5 on a 2013 mac book pro

Logic Pro X, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

Assuming you have already tried restarting your Mac....

Failing that.. reset Logic's prefs...

You can resolve many issues by restoring Logic Pro X back to its original settings. This will not impact your media files. To reset your Logic Pro X user preference settings to their original state, do the following:

  1. Quit Logic Pro X
  2. In the Finder, choose Go to Folder from the Go menu.
  3. Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
  4. Press the Go button.
  5. Remove the com.apple.logic10.plist file from the Preferences folder. Note that if you have programmed any custom key commands, this will reset them to the defaults. You may wish to export your custom key command as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro X User Manual for details on how to do this.
  6. If you are having trouble with a control surface in Logic Pro X, then you may also wish to delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.
  7. Restart the computer.

Note: If you cannot find any of the files listed above, you didn’t follow the instruction correctly! 🙂

Note: No problems with sidechain or view menus here on any of my testbed systems using 10.2.1 under either 10.9.5, 10.10.5, 10.11.3 or 10.11.4b so I suspect its something specific to your setup/installation. Hopefully the reset will fix it...

Found my problem: iSnap. Seems like the issue is with ANY kind of workflow app. That's a little disappointing.

Well.... any app that might be utilizing illegal or improper calls or incorrect use of OS X libraries/routines that do not follow Apples strict guidelines........ which most of these 'workflow' type apps seem to do with alarming regularity.... in order to "improve' the way OS X works..

It might also be an issue with 10.2.1 as that's always possible... (it could be LPX is not following the proper guidelines itself, hence the issue..) but typically in the past, such incompatibility problems with 'workflow' type apps.. have been eventually nailed down to these external apps not following the proper programming guidelines.. after an update to OS X which then causes a knock on effect with other apps after they too are updated.

As it is, iSnap hasn't been properly updated since March 2012 and it's Dev has gone 'dark'....so it's no surprise that one might be causing a few issues...

Anyhow,.., glad you found the cause of your issue.. and thanks for letting us know!

Ill add iSnap to the list of 'conflicting' apps...

Cheers..
