Hi

My computer skills are basic due to having different skill sets so any assistance will be appreciated.

Is it possible to download os x yosemite without installing it? My 2009 macbook pro currently operates on OS X 10 6.8 and I have cubase live music recording data on the hard drive and i don't want to risk losing it. I have carried out a time machine back up onto an external hard drive, but need to get my sound engineer to double check the cubase data is live on the back up before i risk losing six months work. if its possible I need to download yosemite over night due to poor download speed where I live (countryside, it says 6 hours to download) so it is there ready to install when with my sound engineer who will assist with installation etc. Also, i've never installed a new operating system before, will i have to reinstall all programmes like cubase, Audiobox usb, CS5 etc? or will it sort it out automatically? sorry for the lack of experience in this area, its not my area of focus, hence the need for some real experienced based head knowledge this for system upgrade that i have to do for software compatibility reasons. And finally any advise on best way to connect a logitech C920 webcam to a mac?

Kind Regards

Benjamin

You won't be able to download Yosemite(10.10), which would require a previous Yosemite installation You can, however, download El Capitan (10.11), assuming your Mac meets thetech requirements.

After the download process is complete, you'll be presented with the installation window. If you want to delay installation, then quit the installer. (Later, you'll find the installer in the Application folder when you are ready to upgrade.)

If the applications are compatible, they will be installed on the new OS, If they are not, they will be moved to a separate "Incompatible Software" folder at the root level.

One suggestion: in addition to verifying that all of the critical items are on your backup, make screen shots of your important settings – just in case. Those would include Network settings (all the tabs in Network Preferences > Advanced) and your email settings.

Good luck.
